Collaborating for Climate Solutions

ClimateMax is a new collaborative table that brings together leading policy experts from national, state and local organizations working on across issues and movements - climate, housing, public health, civil rights, environmental and economic justice  - to collaborate on a shared analysis to drive solutions with the most potential to deliver universal health and broadly shared economic benefits, reduce GHGs as quickly as possible, and end our country’s dependence on fossil fuels.

We can’t afford to keep working in the same way - in silos, disengaged with where the public is at, and focused solely on defense. People face immediate threats to their health, economic security, and safety, and many feel disempowered, misled, or ignored by their representatives at all levels of government. Moving forward, there is a clear need and opportunity to provide a bold and inspiring vision that speaks to more people.

  • To address this ambitious goal, Climate Max is focused on:

    • Build this space for intersectional solutions and collaboration across sectors to expand our collective reach: We are a growing table that engages organizations working at the national, state, and local levels across issues, sectors (public and private), and geographies (rural, urban).

    • Increase the policy capacity by leveraging the expertise of the leading minds in the field: We are building and sharing the policy expertise and capacity of organizations that work in trusted partnerships with communities most impacted by the climate crisis.

    • Advance solutions that can win the support of a broader section of the public: We offer strategies, intel, best practices, and models to accelerate the replication and scaling of policy solutions that reflect our communities’ priorities.

We came together initially to collaborate on maximizing the benefits of what was then historic investments in clean energy and climate justice, but built a broader more inclusive effort to collectively assess and prepare for 2024 election outcomes and the range of potential implications so we would be prepared to act as soon as possible. We brought together nearly 75 leading policy experts who developed a detailed menu of actions that local and state leaders can take to protect gains, defend against attacks, and continue the long-term work of driving climate policy solutions.

In January, we published Defending and Advancing Climate Justice Policies and are sharing widely with members, policymakers, funder allies, and other key stakeholders to inspire targeted, bold, and coordinated action. We continue to work together to advance our shared goal to increase collaboration across sectors and issues and build the political will and infrastructure required for a more coordinated national push to address energy affordability, climate resilience, health and safety for marginalized communities, both urban and rural, when the opportunities arise across the nation.

    Key Priorities on the Horizon:

    • Increase coordination at the national, state and local levels to advance and defend federal and state policy implementation and solutions, including rollback and cuts by Congress and the White House, and attacks by the courts.

    • Coordinate legal and policy strategies and solutions so community groups and advocates know what they can do to protect their interests and advance solutions.

    • Continue to provide innovative policy solutions by bringing together the best and brightest minds in the field.
